Having recently purchased a guitar from John, I cannot say enough good things about him. Nicest guy in the world. He took a lot of time to patiently talk me through a couple of difficult (for me) decisions. the guitar is set up perfectly, literally: I cannot find a single thing to complain about. And he is available for questions about anything whenever I have them.
Best buying experience I ever had.
thank you John. |

Another thumbs up for John. He set me up with my current guitar and went through the steps with me to get the vertical lever I later decided that I wanted.
Funny story...he told me not to mess with the tuning.
I messed with the tuning (a little). Well, you gotta learn that stuff right?
I assume he didn't want to have to jump through hoops over email to explain to me how to get it back in tune. I'm good on tuning, still a work in progress on playing! _________________ GFI Expo S-10 3x5

Hey Jay,
Thanks for the kind words my friend. Lest dear readers mis-understand; I was actually talking to you about the set-up of the feel stop. Of course tuning adjustments will need to be tweeked as required.
Unless... you are using the John Aberknockerty tuning method (developed in Boston) which never ever goes out of tune.
As everyone knows....Aberknockerty tunes but once. _________________ Steel Guitar Services:

John will send you a PERFECTLY set up guitar. I just chose a different starting point for my E's, thus the need for the slight re-tuning on my part. That actually wasn't part of our multiple conversations by email, where he gave me a lot of info I hadn't had before.
He knew I was a PSG beginner, so I know why he feared what I might then do to his baby, one of his many steel children. I love my babies too.
Have no fear with John. He's a great guy in every sense. And a great PSG mechanic. Not to mention that he can play the hell out of that thing. He is an indelible part of my PSG journey.
I may own this guitar forever without ever changing a thing. Until I adopt the Aberknockerty method. John will have to explain that. Let me know if you need his email address.

John Widgren is one of the good guys! A number of years ago, while I was living in New Jersey, I attended the Pedal Steel Guitar Association's steel event and met John.
I asked him if he could adjust my old MSA and he agreed
and I took it to his place in Connecticut, where he did his magic. I was a happy camper and ended up taking some lessons from him, before I moved to Florida.
John is a fine steel player as well as being a real nice person, too. Oh, and if you should visit John, instead of taking the teacher, an apple, take him a jar of New Mexico Green Chile. He loves the stuff!

Hi John,
Been a long time since I had a lesson. How about one
this coming Summer?
I sure could use the help.
And I'll bring the Green Chile,
