I know there is a chart with the build dates but I don't remember where I saw it. Mine is #2250 D and it listed as a 1976 build.
Maybe someone can help out here.
Lonnie you were in the picture on my profile but you're better looking than me so I had to squeeze you out.

My buddy Erv is correct if you go by chart but who knows. It could be a 68, or even a 70 from what I have heard. Emmons company hand the end plates cast, polished and stamped with serial number then they were put on a shelf in no particular order and as they were needed, they just grabbed one so you really don’t know, not that it makes any difference.
I know I’m right because I heard it from someone else😆

Hey Lonnie!! Smile

I'm returning from Phoenix and not handy to my Emmons serial number list, but I'm pretty sure your guitar is a 1967 model. Does it have bolt-on changers or cut tail? I have a couple other guitars with #s within a few digits of yours.

Here's a list of serial numbers. I don't know how accurate it is.

Is that the same list that used to be on the Carter guitar site? If so, and I hate to put a damper on things, but it’s my understanding that those number ranges are general at best.

Which just makes me want to say again that someone should write a book about Emmons steels. Just like has been done for virtually every make of guitar and amp. Complete with tons of pictures, data, dates, design changes, and other info.

Then again, given that there were only about five thousand Emmons steels made, or thereabouts, that perhaps 25% of those are gone due to fire, neglect, flood, etc., and not every owner would want such a book, that pretty much kills any such book being a best seller.

I also would like to find out about my SD10 Emmons PP, I bought it in late 70s, it was used and quiet old then, serial#260 3 on end plate casting, it is not a D10 conversion the cabinet was not cut out for C6 changer. Jim Goins. Confused

I second that emotion. I also agree it would not be a best seller. But I'd buy a couple copies.

The list in question was compiled by an outside source and has no reference to actual Emmons records. To rebut what Henry says about the issuing of numbers, they were recorded in book as the body was built. The bodies were shelved and when needed, endplates were mounted and the number of the body stamped.

I have 1066 D and I believe it is a ‘67. I t seems unlikely that there were “D” guitars in ‘66 but I would say that getting an absolutely definitive answer is no longer possible. In any case, it is no doubt a fantastic guitar, no?

Hey Jack, were the end plates stamped at forging are were they stamped when put on a guitar. Just courious. The statement I made above was just in jest because I’ve heard so many stories about dates and what years. Thanks

Serial numbers were stamped after being installed on a body. The body was issued a number when built not when used.
