Topic: Any ideas on non slip materials for back of lap steel |

Hello Everyone,
I'm wondering if anyone knows of a non-slip material to put on the back of a lap steel to make it less slippery? My steel is sliding around on my lap a bit....

I use jar lid openers and usually attach with a dab or two of silicone.

Sand in paint. Not kidding. I think that was what the old Fenders had.

| I use that non-slip shelf liner stuff. Mine is black and perforated and came in a roll (WalMart, I think). I attach it with 3M spray contact cement. |

As Keith says, you can buy adhesive-backed felt sheets ... I found some at Joann Fabrics. That keeps it from sliding on my lap. I put some 3M non-skid tape on the keyboard stand when I have the steel on that. It holds the felt without scratching the finish.

I bought these non-skid furniture felts at the local hardware store. Peel and stick.

This is what I used on the back of my SX 6. It's 1/8" or maybe 3/32" shelf liner I picked up somewhere...probably Big Lots, HD, Wal-Mart or some such....or perhaps tool box drawer liner from Harbor Ft...I've forgotten now.
I use it for the magnetic backed pad pictured, a mouse pad, stomp boxes, etc....several things It comes in a roll and I use a spray on adhesive to apply it.
It sits well on my lap and the padding protects the wood from dings and scratches.
'Course, my SX is a $100 guitar and I'm not concerned about any mods. |

Superglue works best, but makes running to the bathroom kind of slow!  
Felt is the standard, but that 1/16" plumbers rubber sheet material sold in hardware shops also works well. You would put that on with double stick tape.

What is best kind of "attaching material" (silicone, etc) so that no damage will occur to guitar's original finish when the anti-slip material is removed?

In the past, I have used green pool table cloth felt. It looks nice and helps keep the guitar from slipping around when played on your lap.
It can match the green felt on the back of Fender Champs.

If you don't want to attach anything to your instrument, you can lay a piece of rubber cloth over your leg(s).
It will hold your Lap Steel in place while you play.
I have a kitchen-countertop glass-drying-pad that works well. |
