Hey, Guys;

Just acquired an antique lap steel and having trouble keeping it in tune. Seems like tuning machines are worn out although the rest of the guitar is almost in pristine condition (for it's age).
Is it possible to tighten them or is replacement the only option? I'd really like to keep it as a player.
It is a Silvertone c. 1940's.

It's likely you can find modern replacements that fit right in - and will work much smoother than the originals ever did.

David, there should be a small screw right in the top of the button on the key.
If its loose, don't tork it down but simply snug it up.
Also, make sure the nut holding the tuning key to the key head is tight as well.
I hope some of this works for you.
