Topic: Can You ID This 8 String P/U? Fender 1000-Neutered |

Just picked up another rescue dog. @59' Fender 1000, de-pedaled and re-finished. Going to keep and beautify as a buffed & polished aluminum magnesium-bound lap steel!
Any idea what these pups might be? I thought Sentell (who just happens to live 3/4 mi from me) but he said - Nice looking, but not his. Measurements: 1 1/4" X 3 5/8"
Of note: mounting screws at edges if that means anything.
This belonged to forum member Al Sydnor (his name is under the tuners) - but can't reach him

oh and that lovely golden patina on the players-side is a slight case of the mange from the inside of case. New-car smell it ain't...that's for sure.

Thanks. Just checked the Emmons LS-8 and TrueTone TT-8...so close but they use 3-ply bwb on the faceplate. The pups on mine are solid black, polished plastic. The Emmons is the first I have seen with the screws on the 4 corners.

| I have no ideas on the identity of the pickup. I do see that someone fabricated a roller bridge - and not a bad one at that - however the lack of mass combined with the inherently shallow break angle of the strings can't be optimum for tone. Since you won't be using pedals you might want to look into making a more substantial bridge and figure out a way to get more downward force on it. Just my $.02. |

Thanks Don,
I began the teardown this week and measured the output of the pickups at 10.4 & 10.5, and I thought they sounded great. When I removed the bridge plate I could see the original white finish underneath. Now that the pull levers are gone I can pull the strings up thru the bridge plate which takes my break angle to just shy of 45 degrees.
Hoping to have it all back together in a month, which probably means two months.

I just did a side by side comparison and the pickups that came on this burgundy 1000 appear to be very different than the original. The ID quest continues. So far I have ruled out: Sentell, Emmons, TrueTone

| Tom,the pickups on your guitar are the real thing. I'm using one I got off an early Fender 400. That's what is on the top neck of that thing on e-bay. I'm not familiar with a Stringmaster 1000. |
