I'm looking at the later, all-metal version (not with bakelite necks). Any comments on how these compare sonically to either a frying pan or all-bakelite equivalent?

I did some work on one about 10 years ago, and it didn't sound like a frypan or bakelite, but was an OK sound...

I meant that is was a normal sounding instrument. Can't compare it with a frypan for sure, or a bakelite. Different instruments altogether...
