Man this is nice, like your playing your steel upside down!!!!!
Im tired of standing hour after hour an in some cases I can work better setting down.
The steel guitar jig is ajustable for any steel. Just set your steel on one support an slide the next support snugly against neck an tighten the four knobs. Really cool for troubleshooting also u can pluck the strings from either end.

This jig is attached to the back of my work bench. The steel on the station is a sd 10 carter.

I don't see anything there to protect the finish of the guitar. Bare wood on the sides and the top is setting on bare metal.

Jack I placed stick on soft side of Velcro where the body top rest on the wood. No metal comes close to guitar body.
If anyone wants too build something similar you can buy the track at any wood working store or catalog. Or you could buy one of Bobs really nice steel guitar work station’s.

Johnie, another great demo of your ingenuity and cleverness. Next year I'm planning to get the cheapest sit-stand desk I can find for working on steels, so I can tinker standing up or seated, go back and forth.

| John that would be perfect just ajust too the height you need. I would like to have a electric lift table. The motorcycle mechanics guys use a lift to work on there bikes. |

I was thinking an engine stand would work well -- you could flip the guitar over into playing position for testing.

I'd really like to know how that comes out! I have one of b0b's SGF stands, which is thoroughly adequate for my use. But if I were to work on pedal steels much, I'd want a good work stand with variable height and the ability to flip the guitar for testing.
I done got too old to do all that heavy lifting.

As I commented before great Steel Guitar Cradle.
Since I work on Guns, Wood Carve, Leather Carve, and Work on my own steel when needed. I would like to have an adjustable height work bench, From sitting in a chair, To near Eye level standing. Sometimes when working on projects I need more movement and access than sitting in a chair. Once an item was clamped down I could change height till project was finished.
I see Harbor Freight advertises a Motor Cycle lift Item# 99887 with a lift of 27 1/2" sounds great. If you built a open leg area table top at about sitting level of 24" and could raise to 51 1/2" by hydraulics. Sit, Stand or Anywhere in between would be great.
Now off to a Harbor freight to check one out. |

Hi Johnnie.
Just to update you on my variable height work bench. I was at Washington Pa. Harbor Freight store and they did not have the Motor Cycle lift I was wanting to modify to use for my table raise and lower.
They have changed to a lift, To lift Motorcycles and riding lawn mowers and it would not give leg room under the table.
Now back to the drawing board and another search for an adaptable lift. |
