If you are referring to the NP2 pics?
there are several types,
Elderly instruments has a good selection at a reasonable price.
There are new ones and the old type.

Price. The thing to do is get some National picks, take a pair of needle-nosed pliers and bend them to fit your fingers. In fact, after you get them to fit your fingers, play your guitar with them for awhile to see if you have the perfect fit. When satisfied, take them to a chrome-plating firm and have them chromed.
Once you get them back, you will likely discover that they are so slippery that you can't keep them on your fingers. Instead of discarding them, sand off all the chrome on the interior portion of the pick that touches your finger tips, using about 120-grit paper. Once done, they will not slip off (at least that is what I discovered using this procedure).
With this suggestion and your follow through, you should be able to sound like any of the greatest names in steel guitar playing history. And it will all be because of my suggestion to you here. Man, were you born lucky or what? ...Tom
P.S.: If you can't find any true Nationals, see if you can still buy the picks Jeff Newman sold (the BJ picks). If that fails, drop me an email; I have other ideas. |

What is the difference between chrome and cobalt chrome?
I use the nickle silver ones and have never tried the old ones you see going for 80-100 bucks.
Is there that much difference?
Have you tried these?
COBALT PLATED NP2 FINGER PICKS
New, National NP2 (.025" gauge) nickel/silver finger pick with a smooth and virtually wear resistant Cobalt plating on the outside playing surface. Not only do these last, they do not drag or squeak on the strings, resulting in faster playing & cleaner sound. NASA has been using Cobalt plating on metal parts for years to reduce friction, now you can too. Try to contact Bill Stroud. He may still have some of his industrial chrome plated picks. I have been using a pair for years! They just don't wear out!!
