This, from a recent performance in Brooklyn NY, is Pablo Casals' Song of the Birds.

Pablo Casals, one of the most renowned cellists of his time, was a Spaniard, or perhaps more accurately, a Catalonian. When General Franco and the fascists took over Spain, Casals left for France and vowed never to return to Spain until Franco died - unfortunately, Franco outlived him. He also vowed never to play in a country that recognized Spain. For the next 36 years he performed in public only a handful of times, one of them, and exception to his vow, was at the White House for the Kennedys who he admired. He played this song at the end of every concert.

Pablo Casals dedicated, and I, with this rendition, dedicate this song to refugees, immigrants, the dispossessed, the oppressed and persecuted everywhere in the world (including the United States).

Here is the video. Thanks for listening, and I hope you enjoy it.
