Looking for some help with a Cowboy lick at 2:25 in this video. The fast banjo roll part.

https://youtu.be/rCtdJLXWncw

I kind of know it's a unison lick with a banjo type roll, 11th fret with strings 1,2 & 4. Just not sure on the plucking pattern.

Anyone care to give some guidance? Maybe there's a video or previous post on something similar I could study up on to help me get this one licked?

Hey Justin this might not help you at all but figured I would chime in, I have seen cowboy play that same lick ,if it is the same one we are talking about in the video around 2:27 . Seems to me like I have seen him go up and hit his vertical knee lever, coming down pretty heavy on the C pedal (back and fourth in a pattern). Not sure about the string grips, I attached a video below of him playing working mans blues with Bill Ferguson, maybe in the clip at 2:40 this is what you’re referring to? Sorry I could not have been more of a help , I am currently guitarless still waiting on my BMI.

Only after slowing down the video to 25% could I decipher this. It's played out of a D-minor pentatonic position (the 11th fret with A-pedal down), and it uses the lever to raise the first string a whole-step.

And the lick that repeats is indeed a banjo roll that starts on string 1 (adding a very quick bump-and-release on the raise lever), string 5A, and string 4. Then repeating that sequence several times.

Not tab, but play the notes in this order.
All in Fret 11:

stg 3

stg 1 (then bump lever up to G# and release)
stg 5A
stg 4

stg 1 (then bump lever up to G# and release)
stg 5A
stg 4

stg 1 (then bump lever up to G# and release)
stg 5A
stg 4

stg 1 (then bump lever up to G# and release)
stg 5A

stg 5A
stg 2
stg 4
stg 1 (then bump lever up to G# and release)
stg 4
stg 1 (then bump lever up to G# and release)

Then it slides up, and I stopped transcribing. Hope that helps.

Justin,

YouTube allows you to reduce the playback speed. Check the settings icon on the edge. One option should be playback speed.
