I had one just like it I bought new in 1980 something. Then I lost my mind and sold it. I miss that guitar, I can't tell but this may be my old guitar. Someone needs to get this guy. They sound Great. |

I have one that looks just like this, and it's my favorite guitar - I tour and record with it
. There's just something about this certain MSA. After I bought mine on eBay fifteen years ago,Maurice Anderson told me that it used to be his guitar and that he recorded "universal Direction" on it. He also told me that he really missed that guitar.
This will be a special instrument for whoever winds up with it. _________________ www.susanalcorn.net

What was the difference, back in this era, between a Classic and an XL?
From the photos it still looks like double raise double lower.
What makes these special?

The coped chart seems to have possible errors and omissions. |

My first steel was an MSA S10 and I’m still impressed with it even though I play 12 string now.
I’m glad to see it’s triple raise and lower. It would still cost a chunk of change for me to change the coped over.
Speaking of the coped, there are oddities in there.
No B pedal raise on string 3?
Why would someone call the thirds of an E major chord “Ab Even if you play swing music an E major chord still has a G#.
String 5 to A# on both C pedal and vertical?
If this is indeed like Susan’s guitar, she gets a wonderful tone, but as we know, it may we’ll be the player!

This is a great value. If looking for an older MSA, "The Universal"/ClassicXL, SS, and Vintage XL with Lacquer finsihes are the ones to get. Parts are easy to find, they have truely great tone, and a normal person with a bit of patience can work on them, and they are unbreakable.
This happens to also have a great finish.

Don't know if it had anything to do with this chart, but Maurice preferred to refer to all flats and sharps by their flat designations, regardless of key. This was part of his 'mental reduction' system, so the mind would only need to think of twelve different notes.
Of course, this does not explain the sharps in the chart. That makes it appear that each pull is referred to by the chromatically closest logical name, again regardless of key. Although, that idea doesn't always fit either. |

This looks like the perfect instrument for my needs. Thanks for re-upping this. I would have missed it otherwise. |
