A very well done and concise historical overview.

I had to chuckle at the sight of those old Oahu books. When I started playing, instructional methods were still making the distinction between “Spanish” guitar and “Hawaiian” guitar. There was nothing this 12 year old Beatles fan was less interested in than corny old Hawaiian music, so I decided the Spanish knew what I wanted. Jeffran College was excellent for it’s time, and gets a respectful nod in Paul’s blog post. But here hasn’t been anything like the Paul Franklin Method in pedal steel instruction before, ever.
