I did see that. I'm a tad reluctant to use aluminum.

Howard,
You can buy the same rivet size in steel. |

Dredging up this old thread to add this:
I'm doing my first set-up on a Carter Pro D10. Richard, I see what you mean and completely understand your frustration concerning the barbells popping out of the crank when the rod is off. [I refer to them as "dumbbells".]
I had to completely re-rod the rear neck, so I got to know the system pretty well.
Here's an idea I stumbled on while doing this work, I noticed a few solid nylon inserts same size as the o.d. of the barbells. [3/16 or .188]
I'm guessing these are meant for use as guides or supports for long pull rod runs, but I discovered they can be used in place of the barbells when I used up all of those.
For Carter owners having trouble finding the brass thingies, you might consider using these. You can buy a length of 3/16 in. nylon, delrin rod, cut it to length and drill a hole center. Insert the hook in the hole and tune as usual.
It can be found at amazon and other online stores. If you have access to a hacksaw, dremel etc. and a drill press and vise, you can fashion these yourself pretty easily.
You might find the leverage just a tad different as the pull rod will sit a bit higher, or lower.
I feel confident this material is durable too. Sierra used this material into which the pull rods were threaded.
This might be old hat to some of you, but I didn't see it referred to in this old topic. FYI and FWIW...use it or lose it. |

The last S-10D Carter I had, I replaced the bellcranks with GFI bellcranks. No more problems. Got that idea from this dude called "Seymour," a long time ago. My ole buddy !!! |
