Trying to figure out a way to get my lap steel into a gig bag with my dreadnaught acoustic so that I can carry it onto a plane and put it in the overhead.
Thought about maybe just strapping a small lap steel gig bag - or my small Rickenbacher hard case - to the guitar gig bag and seeing if I could pass it off as a single carry on item.
Any ideas? |

Interesting question. Here are two ideas:
Get a luggage shop to add some zippers so you can join the Lap Steel Bag to the Dreadnought Bag.
Here is another somewhat spendy (to my mind) possible solution:

Practically, I would follow Michael's tip of a dual acoustic bag. The Mono, referenced in his link is very good quality but an alternative is available from Gator and generally cheaper. I have a Gator bag for two basses and its wonderful! Now, whether you can get such a bag in an overhead locker I would say is doubtful, they are very robust!
I once had a very flimsy gig bag, designed for a short scale guitar, that could accommodate a steel. I strapped it to my guitar bag using elastic straps with hooks! Crude but it worked for a bicycle ride.
