The right thing to do is replace the mica. If you can't do that move the pad. |
Moving the pad is inexpensive, reversible, relatively easy. The other good suggestions are still open to you. |

|
|
For a quick repair I would select some solid material the same thickness of the formica layer, Cereal box, Packing material, Plastic lid from peanut butter jar or such. Cut it to fit the chip. Then just cover it with black duck tape or such. I would not put any glue or such on the wood, Could affect the final fix.
The only sure fix is replace the Formica. It will not be a 5 minute fix. Finding a perfect match in color and appearance. Removing fixtures (pad, bolts and such. Then removing the Formica, cleaning the surface, Applying the Formica and trimming to fit.
Good Luck on this project, And getting the Boo Boo off your baby. |

[quote="Willie Sims"]after seeing the close up of the formica damage, and Ijust wanted to repair -the missing formica,I WOULD SQUARE OFF BOTH ENDS,STRAIGHTEN THE BACK, AND REMOVE THE FORMICA. MAKE A PATTERN ,CUT FORMICA TO FIT .FILL CRACK;S WITH BLACK WAX AND BUFF.
USE A DREMEL TOOL.[ |

Does the pad go all the way to the endplates? If so you might just replace an inch of the back edge of mica. Replacing the whole back deck is much more involved than it might seem. The endplates would need to be removed and the thin step mica between the necks would be on top of the back deck mica. _________________ http://www.littleoprey.org/ |
