Just got into Lap Steel, first post here. Just curios what model this is? Looks like it's been untouched in the case for 70 years!

Hi Jason. Easiest thing to do is compare what this ones features are with examples
on Reverb sale offers. Or just google: Oahu steel guitars.. that's my best guess, due to the cast alum. tail pc/bridge. A student model, likely, because of printed instruction materials. Instructors in that era were like franchises of today; they also could supply an instrument and bars, picks, strings, etc. for as much as one could afford. This fellow had it all, apparently.

The pickup under the cover may be the best clue you have as generic builders, Harmony Kay etc sourced from similar companies if they were building for Oahu or whoever.

Looking at the slides you have there is one for each day of the week and two for Sundays!!!

Have fun, put it through a small Valve amp and take yourself on a journey.

Despite the books with it, it's not an Oahu. Nor is it from any of the big steel makers of the time. Harmony, Kay, National-Dobro/Valco, Dickerson, and Regal are all out of the running.

Looks kinda like a Kiesel to me. Pre-Carvin, but same company.

I could agree about Kiesel.. they also offered student/entry level models of that era, but that would put the whole outfit up into mid-40's to 1950. After googling about I could NOT find many examples of similar shape, hardware, etc. Only thing I noticed was the 'diamond' shape markers on the fretboard. Tiny as they are, they did match shapes on a later model Oahu (Valco sourced?) seen on Reverb. The headstock on this one is a more tapered shape, while the Kiesel signature trapezoid sat squat against the end of its fretboard. Take a google at all the early Kiesel sites. Some models were Bakelite molded!
One thing new to me was the steel bar with a metal stirrup attached, upper left, then the lower left..both pics.. never seen one like that! 😁
