Without having to have custom knobs made, does anyone know where I can get Tele knobs with an aggressive knurl? Would like to have a better grip when doing volume swells.

Have you tried lubricating the shaft on the pot? That can sometimes make a significant difference in how easy it turns. Winking

Michael Slotbloom of Armadillo makes these aggressive knobs. You can ask him for knobs that fit the stem on your pots but the the pots without knurled shafts are a more secure fit so it would depend on your pots.

You can also ask him to drill a small hole on the top of the knob so you have a position marker to know where your settings are for volume and tone.

Thanks so much for the input. I should be able to find something that will fit a standard solid shaft.

I ended up with two old Gretsch guitar knobs, brass with a lot of the plating gone. They mount on a 1/4" shaft pot with a setscrew. The large diameter and distinctive knurling are awfully handy on a Telecaster control plate. Yes, it looks just a little bit wrong but it plays so right.

A nice thick rubber band around the knob is not elegant but it works very well.

To echo Doug, I use a short section of high pressure, small diameter bicycle inner tube over the volume knob. It provides a smooth but grippy surface and increases the knob diameter a bit. The soft, smooth rubber is more comfortable to my tender fingers than aggressive knurling too.

Inner tubes are made with much better rubber than rubber bands so they degrade more slowly. I keep a box of old bike tubes of several diameters around so I can make durable rubber bands as needed.

Yeah, a bit expensive but it was exactly what I was looking for. The Glendale knobs have a very aggressive knurl. 👍

Partial quote from John Ruskin...

“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do.”

I try to remember this quote as in the past I've wasted a few bucks trying to save a few.

Good you found what you needed Len.
