Folks, I just picked up a Derby S-10 lap to experiment top x3 with high G-B-D, and very bottom is A - it’s fun! But since this Derby feels “ identical “ to modern pedal steel—the scale length to string spacing, etc. , I get little confused because I’m so used to pedal steel C6 layout. Nonetheless it’s fun toying with it.

This one came with Looks like a Laurence 710, and while I like that pickup for pedal steel,
With this maple bodied aluminum neck lap without any Vol. and Tone control, it sounds Way too bright- and here’s my question:

Regular 710( or E66) is mounted to a plate with 4 screws-
But this one has very big black plastic plate that fills up the entire cavity-
I undo the x4 screws and unlike normal wide- mount, it doesn’t come out-

Does anyone know how Charlie did PU mounting on his Lap ??
The plate with x3 point height adjustable screws seems normal pedal steel design.
What am I missing here?? Question

This ain’t much,
The only one I can think of is Billy Robinson—playing a lap Derby.

He describes his custom designed 10 string on this page somewhere.
Hiro, I’m curious as to your whole tuning, if you care to share.

Ain’t much- Wink
From bottom to top 8 is typical C6
Low A to high G- then B(2nd) and D(top)
Like Billy Robinson with B thrown in.
Since scale is pedal scale 24-1/4”, string gauge is SIT Big E C6.
