Can anyone recommend a good hand truck for moving a double-neck up and down stairs?

I'd like to find something lightweight, rugged and reliable.

No, I have not tried it. I saw them at Costco last weekend and ran across the video just today.

Were you wanting a hand truck with the triple wheels like that?

I'm open to triple wheels, but most of them look kind of flimsy to me.

I'm leaning toward something like this:

No experience with this brand but have been looking at them. B&H Photo has had some good prices on occasion.

I have the R2RT Micro. I can haul all my gear in one trip, set up in the horizontal position.

I think it would do fine hauling a D10 up stairs.

I have one and it works good, just make sure you have a bungee cord to hold steel in place. Bob moore

I don't use a hand truck for stairs. I find me a temporary roadie at a show!!!!! Corn dog or a cold beer will work!!!! Always someone younger hanging around. I remember years ago to always find a guy with a size 2 hat and a size 18 shirt!!!!

Monday nights at the Wheel here in Montreal, my friend Morgan always carries my steel down and up the stairs.

But when I get back to my place in the wee hours, there are more stairs.

Love that! Clearly there's things left for me to learn.

Get some adjustable tether straps from worn out child car seats. They work great to hold gear securely onto a cart or hand truck.

I don't know where you can get one but there is one made with sort of a rubber cat track on the back side for going up and down stairs.

It's a track like used on a Caterpillar crawler tractor. There are skid steers using a track like that now, only rubber.
There is a hand cart made with a rubber track also.

Appliance dollys have the rubber track like Erv mentions for going up and down stairs, along with a strap to hold the cargo to the cart. But, I don't know of any lightweight appliance dollys...

That said, I use one and it works great.

I've had one of those folding luggage carts for at least 20 years. Walmart or such. Lightweight, collapsible, stair climber rails. About 20 to 40 bucks. Only rated at about 75#, but has handled all my D10's with no problem. You don't need a big heavy furniture or appliance dolly for this.

These have a nice wide folding platform for your amp, speakers, cases whatever. Made of lightweight chrome or black tubular stock.

I've used mine for big heavy 8 sp. audio racks and lots more. Still going strong and shows no signs of fatigue. Folds up and stows easily...you can easily pick it up with one hand.

Thank you, Jerry.

Looking at the Wal-Mart and Amazon sites and searching on Google, I don't see a luggage cart with stair rails.

Can you tell me any more about what you have? Is it one with six wheels or two?

I don't see the exact model in a quick search, but I'm sure it was Target or Wal-Mart, but it's been quite a few years.

It just has rails on the back for sliding up stairs. It's 2 solid wheels about 6 1/2".

It's just a really basic light cart and I paid under $40 I'm sure.

Edit:Here's a link to one similar to mine from Staples...I'm sure there are others about. staplescart

Some of the other suggestions are more heavy duty for sure, but for me having another heavy, bulky tool to deal with is something I don't need more of...each to his own of course.

Thank you Lee, Kevin Fix, Bob, Kevin Mincke, Don, Barry, Erv, David and Jerry.
I was at Home Depot with a steel last night and checked out what they had, including:
* An appliance dolly with rubber track. (Too big & heavy for me.)
* A Harper 700-lb dolly with climbing rails. (Heavy, small platform, climbing rails were plastic and, I thought, suspect.)
* Several standard dollies with various size wheels, no climbing rails. (Heavy.)

So I'm going to try something like what Jerry's been using for many years, a Staples luggage cart with climbing rails rated for 225 lbs. I hope to get it next week and write about the results.

Corn dogs, fried chicken and beer may also be employed as recommended by Kevin Fix. Laughing

Thank you all again for your help.

The variety of hand truck you need is an "appliance hand truck."
They're usually around 150 bucks, and I'd rather just rent one from U-haul for the occasional gigs that need them. I think they're 7 bucks a day or so, and you don't have to store it when you're done.
