I was thinking of Melvin today and came across this high quality vid of him playing thru many styles on his JCH D10:

He really digs in with his picking hand!
His great band First Aid Kit is here in Portland Wed Oct 3rd.

Interesting video. Learned a bit about another PSG player.

I did become aware of First Aid Kit about a year ago with their Stay Gold CD. Totally impressed me with their music and vocal harmonies. It gave me hope that there are actually some very talented young musicians out there.

Melvyn is, I think, a UK steeler.
There are many more knowledgeable steelers on this side of the pond who may chip in.
First Aid Kit played Glastonbury a couple of years ago, which I watched on TV. Looked like he was playing an Emmons D10, but I could be very wrong on this.
But, he's good... and I'm not wrong there!

Alan, think this may help.
Melvin Duffy is accomplished on several stringed instruments including guitar, slide guitar, Dobro-style guitars, mandolin, Weissenborn-style guitars, bass, banjo and piano, but he is a world renowned Pedal Steel player. As a session musician he has played with a wide variety of stars including Sam Brown, Jools Holland, KT Tunstall, Leo Sayer, Uriah Heep, Jimmy Nail, Chris Jagger, David Knopfler, Joe Cocker, Zucchero, Tina Turner, Robbie Williams, UB40, Elkie Brooks, Chris Difford, The Waterboys, Squeeze (2), First Aid Kit, and many others not mentioned here.
As far as I know he plays JCH, sometimes used to borrow Dave Rowland’s Carter if he had any fly jobs, as JCH was too heavy. Had pleasure of seeing him some years ago at Gerry Hogan’s Steel Festivals in Newbury UK., very talented guy.

I just attended a First Aid Kit concert here in Portland tonight.
Great show!
The sisters and band sounded great, and Mel played his Emmons D10 Smile

Melvin also plays with Paul Young's band Los Pacaminos.

We did a show with them in London last year and he's a really nice guy as well as a monster player.

He can't be seen but he can be heard if one listens closely. He's with Squeeze now!
