Happy to announce that my hometown Sweet Sounds of Jazz Concert series will again feature two steel guitarists in the summer series that runs ever Tuesday night in July and August.

Jim Cohen makes his 3rd appearance on July 10, on Central Ave, and Mike Neer and his Steelonius Band will be in the same location for his second time on August 21.

I'm so proud to have them both back, unfortunately same as last year I will be in Texas with my daughter moving her into her new apartment at Texas Tech and will be away for Mike's show.

Great to see these two monsters are returning, it's a competitive schedule and it's good to know they made the cut yet again. If you are in the area, please come out and enjoy our town and their great music!

I'll be playing together with some great Philly jazzers, including:

Dave Hartl (keys)
Andy Lalasis (bass)
Grant MacAvoy (drums)
Stan Slotter (trumpet & flute)

Any Forumites in the area should come on out; it's bound to be a great night of jazz.

(Remember, though, raindate is the following night, July 11.)

This is Jim's 3rd year playing at the Festival and the last two were superb. There are many Youtube's out on past performances, but show up tomorrow night and see it live.

Thanks Jim for bringing up your first class players from The City of Brotherly Love to New Jersey.

Hope to see some Forum friends tomorrow night.

A big thanks to Jimbeaux for bringing up his A-list players from Philly to play my town's 22nd Jazz Fest that runs every Tuesday night in July and August. The show was fabulous and there was a great crowd.

Was nice to visit with John Ciano, Gordon Wells, and Mike Neer, who will bring his Steelonius band on Aug. 21st.

It is so cool to see people being exposed to a real master playing Jazz at such a high level, and totally enjoying it

Thanks Jim!

Thanks, Craig, Mike, Gordon, John, and all the other fine folks who came out to catch our sets last night. It's wonderful that Westfield, NJ has such a long-term (22 year!) commitment to jazz, presenting 48 artists over 3 months each summer. Remarkable! And I'm honored and privileged, along with Mike Neer, to be one of the two steel guitarists invited to participate.

And my band last night? Absolutely world-class players, every one of them. Dave ("The Animal") Hartl on keys (who is also in our Ronstadt Revue band), Grant MacAvoy on drums (who played on my 2012 CD, "Pedal Steel Jazz"), Stan Slotter killin' it on both trumpet and flute (who doubles on trumpet and flute??) and the fantastic bassist, Andy Lalasis (our first time working together but surely not the last!)

By the way, this was my first chance to use the DV Mark 50 amp in a gig setting and I was very happy with it. I'm not sure who took this video but it was posted to Facebook last night. Not sure if everyone can access it or not but here's a link you can try if you want to hear how the DV Mark 50 sounded in this setting:

This event with Mike Neer is this coming Tuesday night, if you are local, try and attend.

I was supposed to be away, but will happily be attending this year.

What a pleasure to hear Mike and his fine group tonight in Westfield. Great jazz repertoire and great playing by all parties. Mike's treatment of Monk tunes is a joy to hear and sounds super on his Clinesmith. Catch them if you can. Smile

p.s. Very cool that Westfield has invited two steel players to be part of their jazz festival over the past few years. Now if we can just figure out how to spread that to other festivals... Open to ideas!

Great show Mike, sorry i missed the second half, my son's truck wouldn't start and I had to rescue him in Fanwood.

I loved that slow tune you did with the accordion, think you said it was a Fats Waller tune and I'm hoping you will post the videos. especially the, second set.

Thanks for playing again this year, and it was great to see Jim Cohen again all the,way up from Philly.

Craig, Jim, it was great to see you guys there--thanks for coming out.

Here are a few clips from the performance.

Jitterbug Waltz

I Mean You

We have a gig at the Hyatt Regency in New Brunswick on Sept. 6 that may be a little more of a straight ahead jazz affair. I have a different band with vibraphones for that one. I like to work with different instrumentation.

Pete, I use a Digitech RP1000 multieffects unit. Has a built-in pedal and you can select the wah you want. Sounds as good to me as any wah I’ve ever owned, and I’ve had a few.
