Greetings & blessings to all. I've just joined the forum, and I have some questions referring to an Emmons GS 10 Student Model Pedal Steel. 3 floors & 3 knees. Push Pull Serial # is GS273.
1. Could anyone please tell me what year this would be?
2. What's the procedure for tuning this particular steel?
3. Could anyone please tell me what the proper setup should be for this model, especially with the 3 knee levers. The present setup is as follows...
LKR raises 4 & 7 a 1/2 tone.
RKL raises 1 a 1/2 tone & raises 6 a whole tone.
RKR lowers 4 & 8 a 1/2 tone.
Here's my problem... the LKR raises 4 & 7, but the lever location is located on the right side of the knee, but it
moves to the left to raise. Therefore you would have to remove your foot from the floor pedals to pull the knee back, then shift the knee to the right side of the lever to move the lever to the left, then move the knee back to the left side of the lever to position the left foot properly back onto the floor pedals. It's as if the lever is positioned wrong, and should be on the left side, and not on the right. But there are no holes or parts in the body to indicate that placement. I would really appreciate some help with this. I cannot find any reference on the internet that helps. I'm an experienced musician of 50 years and have done musical instrument repairs for 30 years, but I am New to pedal steel. Any and all help given is greatly appreciated. Blessings

Welcome to the SGF! It's a push-pull guitar. Although they are modest-looking, the GS10 has a reputation for sounding as good, or even better (according to some posts I've read) than professional-grade Emmons push-pulls, which is saying something. With 3 knee levers - a bonus for a student model from that era - it should be a fine rig to learn on. Search the forum and you'll find plenty of threads on the GS10.

Hi Randy if you have no raised neck I would say you have a GS10 but if your guitar has a 1/4 “ raised neck it is more likely a BlackRock which I think came standard with a 3*3 setup . And yes you have a push pull guitar .

If guitars with no necks sounds this good, they why even put a neck on a steel guitar?

Thanks everyone for your help and information. I greatly appreciate it. Concerning the LKL Lever location, I realized being new to Pedal Steel that my seating placement was the issue, and not the Lever location. Embarrassing, but we live and we learn. Blessings to all.
