I highly recommend the 'Adams' Resonator guitars. Jim Adams recently moved his shop to Spring , Texas. I own three of his: Flamed Maple 6 string, Carbon Fiber composite 6 string, and an 8 string, 22 1/2" scale, Birch. The Carbon Composite and the 8 string were custom made for me.

He can make anything you want. <adamsresonator> and e-mail <jameshadams>

Thanx,
Jim
PS the Red and Black Carbon Fiber Composite on his web page is like the one I have.

Did you see this?

At that price, it may be gone already. I have no idea why he's willing to part with it that cheap. I sure wouldn't sell my Adams for that.

For REALLY low money, check out the Gretsch Boxcar. I bought one and was astounded at the quality and tone. My previous resophonic was a $2300 Carroll Benoit koa/spruce model. Does the Gretsch come anywhere near that? Of course not, but for what it is, I found it an exceptional value. The Benoit definitely didn't sound thousands of dollars better.

Edit: I re-read original post and see you're looking for American made .

Mark suggested this early in the topic, but somehow seems overlooked. For a loud and warm tone under 2K your best bet is the Appalachian. There are many very satisfied owners. Go on the ResoHangout and look up the many enthusiastic comments about them.
