Harley.
I have replaced several 6L6 tubes over the years.
When you do this....keep in mind that you have to regulate the tube settings on your amp.When you cannot do this or do not have the know how you should not begin to replace them.Better let some musicstore do it for you.
The only thing that I always do after replacement is that I let my new tubes burn in on full power for 1 hour.
When you do this the amp will give you a much better and clearer sound.

Are these normal prices for 6L6 tubes?
These are not the original 6L6 tubes that I used for my Fender Twin a while back.
Looks like Russian to me.

Hey there Harley,
What type of amp are you needing tubes for?
Ouput tubes (6L6, 5881, 6V6, KT88, 6550) may or may not require the output section the have the bias re-adjusted. It will depend on the amp, and whether the bias scheme is adjustable, fixed, or cathode type. Cathode type is self adjusting, and there's nothing that needs to be done. Fixed *may* need a service person to check the fixed bias point to see if the new tubes are running in the "safe zone". Adjustable will (usually) also need a service tech to set the bias.
Pre-amp tubes (12AX7, 12AT7, 6AU6, 6SN7) dont need anything in the way of service. Just pop the new ones in. Sometimes some spray contact cleaner in the preamp tube sockets will help a noise problem, and improve conduction.

I've purchased tubes from him several times and he is happy to discuss various tube choices over the phone.
Forgot to mention, for 12AX7 tubes try the Groove Tube 12AX7M (the new Mullard copy.) You can get these easily at most local music stores that carry a decent supply of tubes.

Andy.
I know that atleast the Fender Twin and all Peavey tube amps need to be re-adjusted.
Dunno about other amps 'cause I never owned or used them.
