This is the steel I now use, don't play pedal anymore.
Was built in Scotland sometime in 70's was pedal but hard to keep in tune, sounded more like bagpipes so I gutted it and it's now a C6 10 string, plays well

Soon Mike, just trying to sort out the right tunes to add to my Hawaiian Cd, it's getting the sound right from western swing to the soft sound of Hawaii.
Need to be able to change the sound quick when on stage with Bill. |

The National Console and some of the New Yorkers use a rotary switch with a different value resistor on two of the positions. The Gretsch Country Gent also has a similar Gibson type switch that uses the same method. Perhaps someone on the blog could tell you what value resistors are used.

Hi all, the Gretsch Country Club has the tone switch which uses .0039uf or .012uf. I find that both of these values are a bit too much. That is why folks refer to this as the "mud" switch. Still, some folks love them. I do love the Country Club guitar though!
If you have the room under the carriage a tone pot with a typical value and an on/off switch to remove the pot from the circuit may be useful. You can pre-set the tone and then just switch it in or out of the circuit.
For a single coil a 250ohm pot with a .047uf cap
For a humbucker a 500ohm pot with a .022uf cap
I have used an angle bracket from the hardware store and an existing undercarriage screw to mount this on some pedal steels. If you are handy with a soldering iron the wiring diagram is easy. Anyway, just a thought. |
