I tuned in to the Chris Scruggs Friends and Neighbors show following the Friday Night Opry last evening. I really enjoy this show as it presents real country music instead of the modern stuff they try to push off as "Country". I was surprised to hear Chris playing what sounded like early pedal steel like Bud Isaacs played in the 50's. As always, it sounded great. I had never heard him play anything but non-pedal beore. I wonder what guitar and copedent he used. Hopefully Chris will see this post and answer these questions.

While I did not hear last nights performance, I can tell you it isn't likely that Chris was playing a pedal steel. He is incredibly good at behind the bar string bends. He very often plays what sounds like early pedal steel licks using this technique. Here are a couple examples form Chris Scruggs performing this on YouTube.

Chris does have several vintage pedal steels. He knows the early Isaacs style.

Interesting to know. Has he used them in performance or recorded with them? I'd like to hear that.

Thank you for the link, Russ.

How wonderful to hear these guys together.

Chris sounds super on the pedal steel. Is it a Sho-Bud, a Sho-Pro, something else?

He was playing a Sho-Bud on the "Sweetheart of the Rodeo" 50th Anniversary performance the other night. I couldn't quite make out the model name on the apron but it looked more like Pro-(something) than "The Professional" or "LDG".
