Hello Mathew.
I waited to see if anyone would reply, I'm no expert either but I would suggest not panning the main Instrument (Steel) way over to one side. I normally pan the other Instruments left and right with varying amounts to get separation and clarity, and put the Steel somewhere in the middle.
I record each Instrument on separate tracks so I can control each and load them into a DAW (Digital Work Station) where I can add effects to each if required, I use an old one called Adobe Audition 3 it might be old but it does everything I would want to do, there are many others available.
Here is one of my home recordings, doing this myself is half the fun with only a cheap Digital Sound Recorder (Zoom H2) and my Computer.

I agree with James' comment about the panning for this song performance. If the song had a vocal part, then panning as such might be considered. But for this performance, the PSG is the focal point. |

The mix sounds good! I'd pan the acoustic guitar and piano away from center and each other and, as others have mentioned, center the steel. Maybe just a touch more kick too but that's just me |

Thank you for all your replies! I haven't anything done about the volume of the guitar and piano, and besides that, yeah I mixed it wrong haaa. I only record my steel on my right side, that was not the meaning of recording my gear. Oh well, I just need to record it again and hopefully I'm getting better at this. _________________ Zumsteel - 1982 - 8x5
