I purchased a D-11 ZB pedal steel serial #0198 from Chuck Back awhile ago, and I am finally getting to work on it. This guitar was almost totally in pieces except for the E9 neck. I completely disassembled everything and my plan is to make it an SD-11 extended E9. This guitar started out greenish blue, but at some point it was refinished to a natural color. The inlay was sanded through on the back of the guitar so I routed out the old inlay and replaced it. I finished it in with aniline dye in blue with the front panel, rear panel, and neck, slightly lighter than the upper cabinet. The endplates, keyhead, and changer/pickup housing all had major scratches, some were quite deep, so I sanded and polished everything. So far, the only thing I haven't done myself is spray and buff the lacquer finish, which I had Kal-Tone guitars here in Kalamazoo do for me. I replaced the original Kluson tuners with Kluson Tone Pro Heritage series. I am now working on getting the changer cleaned up and back together. I am looking for 1 original black knee lever/shaft assembly. Here are some pictures of the progress.
