Working puzzles online, this wireless mouse responds slowly as if it were dragging on the pad, but it's optical. I changed batteries.
Still drags. I put the old wired mouse on and it did its thing of slow response on the clicker. These things aren't good for puzzles.
I wouldn't say that I notice it otherwise, pointer moves fine right now.
Is it a sign of some programs use more memory and this machine is challenged, or dirty? Can mice turn evil?
I've bought a new Sony laptop with modern memory, but I'm curious nonetheless, or will be until the 'puter arrives. |

The lag in the pointer could be related to your internet speed. Are you on a particularly slow connection?
You can clear the cache out of your browser, which forces a fresh reload of revisited pages. In fact, delete unneeded temp files using the Windows Cleanup tool, or CCleaner.
If all else fails, install a different web browser.
Slowness can also be caused by malware operating in the background. Scan for a coin miner, or spam sending Trojan operating in the background. Many compromised computers are used to do these things, plus participate in distributed denial of service attacks against networks, companies, governments and individuals. Constant high volume outgoing packets will cause slowness on a compromised PC or Mac.

It doesn't click from page to page very fast, and we're on TPlink's premium deal. I use CCleaner daily, so I'll change the brower.
What dark alley do I go down to scan for beasts in the underbelly? Never mind... I'll wait and see how the new unit does. |

If you have nothing else, enable Microsoft Windows Defender, update it and scan for vermin. Then download Malwarebytes free (includes a couple weeks of full premium features), update and scan.
These two get along well.

Charlie,
Go to the windows setup page and you can change the characteristics of the mouse. It may have defaulted back to the original settings.

There's no telling what poisons it could have eaten off this desk.
I tried puzzling a bit and it seems that after a while it loses steam. The longer you hod the button down, the more it drags.
Right now it's moving just fine. I'm gonna say wattage, as if I don't have fresh batteries. I know how that feels. |

I have all but given up on Bluetooth mice. Most of mine are USB and optical and work just fine for years. The ball mice used to get cat hairs wrapped around the balls and become jerky. My only wireless mouse is a Logitech Trackball model, which eats a battery every few months.

Good news everyone! (if you watch Futurama) The new computer is wider than ever, great for puzzling.
The mouse with the tale works fine. The wireless mouse crapped out. Good riddance! |
