For those who might be interested, this is a video of a 27 minute performance of improvised music with the inventive guitar virtuoso Killick Hinds at the Red Room in Baltimore, Maryland on June 9th, 2018. This was our second duet, the first being in 2005.

I hope you enjoy the music.

You guys should take a stroll on the southern appalachan trail, somewhere north of Dahlonega, Ga., in the spring, when the Robins first arrive, and the mocking birds, Talk about Appalachan music!!
You really should consider quitting the white powder!

Lonnie, thanks for writing, and thanks for your advice - I would love to be on the southern Appalachian trail in Georgia in the spring when the robins first arrive and to hear the mockingbirds sing. I have been on the AT in West Virginia in the spring, and it is beautiful there too. And I agree with you that music is probably the most spiritual of human emotions (and, as an aside, Killick Hinds, the guitar player in that video is one of the most spiritual people Iรขโ‚ฌโ„ขve ever met).

As for the second part of your advice, here we go again. I remember when the Beatles first came out, and older people around me, especially jazz musicians, were completely dismissive of them, saying they couldn't play their instruments, etc. What it really was is that they just didn't understand it - they couldn't hear what we heard in that new music; perhaps, being young, our nervous systems could relate to that music in ways our parents couldn't. Sometimes when I listen to electro-acoustic music or rap music, I start to think the same thing, but then remind myself that just because I don't get it, doesn't mean it's invalid, but I never insult the musicians - they are our brothers and sisters. Give that some thought, and have a nice day.
