I will always remember the words from "The End Of The Line".

I don't have to be ashamed of the car I drive, at the end of the line |
And this came from folks who certainly had some money! Kind of a people's band. _________________ Fender Kingman, Sierra Crown D-10, Evans Amplifier, Soup Cube. |

Yup, but if you don't have your health, you got nothing! Love listening to them sing and play. Neat video End of the Line on the train. _________________ Currently own, 6 Groner-tone lap steels, one 1953 Alamo Lap steel, Roland Cube, Fender Champion 40 |

Great pic!
There's one thing that strikes me odd about it however. Can anybody guess what I'm thinking? |

I don't know if this is it - but I immediately noticed something that has only 4/120 probability of happening in a true random ordering. |

Someone else probably knows about George's Gretsch collection. I have a GP mag around here somewhere that lists some of them.
I know he played the Country Gentleman, and Duo Jets and I think maybe a Chet model besides the 6120 at some time or other. Probably more than one of ea.
I went snooping around the net for more photos and found that in many of them, Tom Petty has the gray jacket where everybody else is wearing black. Just an observation.
I don't really know much about the Willburys. |

I realize they are all musical legends, but could never get excited about their music; the TWs music just seems kinda BLAH.
. Liked them better with the respective former bands or careers. _________________ A couple D-10s,some vintage guitars & amps, & lotsa junk in the gig bag. |

I think the bigger point is that all of them EXCEPT GEORGE has on a White Shirt beneath their jacket! Wow! _________________ www.JimCohen.com

Probably goes back to being a Chet Atkins fan. George was also a uke player and had a collection of those as well I think. He'd show up at gatherings of the George Formby Society similar to our steel guitar conventions as just one of the guys.
Anyway, you can tell who were the vintage guitar geeks--all but Dylan and Lynne are resting the guitars on their shoe tops (like I would be too.) |

I like the lyrics. The grandpa stage of these icons looking back and realizing the angst all led up to the End Of The Line, get the F off the grid kick back and celebrate life thingy.
Dylan's My Back Pages...
My guard stood hard when abstract threats
Too noble to neglect
Deceived me into thinking
I had something to protect
Good and bad, I define these terms
Quite clear, no doubt, somehow
Ah, but I was so much older then
I'm younger than that now

Being that the band was endorsed by Gretsch, I'm sure they did a lot of promo picture sessions; although this pose looks like an outtake for sure.
There was even a Gretsch "Travelling Wilburys" model guitar, which didn't last long...

I have a feeling Gretsch outfitted them with guitars of their choice and there was no need to raid George's collection. _________________ Mark |
