I bought this guitar with missing parts and pulls, some Home Depot philips screws in it etc... this is one of the best guitars ever built, so I decided to send it to my bud Henry in Texarkana to bring it back up to speed... I will post a few pictures and if you want to see more just ask, if you have any questions I’m sure Henry will be glad to answer it for you...

going around the knee lever with the pull rod to avoid drilling extra holes in the guitar...

.

adding some pulls on this cross shaft

all the non original parts are being replaced by correct Emmons parts ( in this case a generic philips screw)

Henry says this is a tone monster, I didn’t even had a chance to play it, I shipped it out to him as soon as I got it, can’t wait to get her back 😊

yes Sir, very early ‘67 bolt on per Billy Cooper, not restoring it, just a good solid service and set up... will post some more pix soon...

Good to hear.. I think it's odd that 'originality' doesn't seem as important (or impact value) with vintage steels as much as it does with something like a Tele or any vintage electric guitar.

Personally, I like the idea that as much of the guitar is original as possible. I'll quote my friend Lynn Stafford; "It's only original once." Smile

big majority of the guitars I’ve seen restored, didn’t need anything more but a good cleaning and set up, most restorations are done by the owner to improve the cosmetics of the guitar, I can’t even remember last time I saw guitar that needed complete restoration... I am restoring a Sho Bud Pro lll right now, but not because it didn’t play or sound good, but because someone sprayed it with a spray can , once I’m done, it will be a beautiful guitar, but it won’t play or sound any better then it did when it was ugly...

This is a really nice guitar and was and is in great shape, just needed a little TLC. Polishing and cleaning. This is not a restore, Mike Scaggs is the expert on that. This guitar is also all original now except maybe a few screws. Can’t wait to get new strings on this baby. Damir may have to fight for it back, lol. By the way, it sounded killer with old dead strings on it. Couldn’t resist playing it a little before I worked on it.

Awesome! I'll bet it sounds great... I'm a big fan of the original Emmons PUs in these old guitars. I think they just have the 'sound' associated with a good P/P.

Hey Damir,

Question to you or Henry regarding the pickups in this guitar. I have a 'June 66 bolt on that came with the original,p/u's also, but they are the earlier type that was also used in the wrap arounds, IE they are solid black, not the black/white/black "sandwiched" style as in this and later guitars. Mine are at 15.5k, I'm curious as to what yours are wrapped to? This guitar came from Larry Sasser, and he described these as having the "EEK!" Factor. In other words you get the EQ dialed in for say strings five thru ten and hit three and four, then you say EEK!!! Or as my buddy Larry Bell quotes Buddy saying they can blister a hound's ear at twenty paces.

Just curious if anyone else has experienced this on older pickups like this. Maybe it's the difference of using modern technology amps. Wimpy said he and Jaydee have had convos on the subject but never quite solved the issue.

At any rate, that's a very cool guitar! I've not seen many '60's bolt on guitars with rosewood mica.

E9 pickup sounds awesome, C6 is going to Jerry Wallace to be rewound... this guitar needed this, it was playable when I got it, but it needed a lots of TLC, it’ll be like new after we are done with it 😊

Ran into something weird that never came across. The C6th pickup worked but would give no ohm reading with a meter. Just showed it was open. That’s why we are getting Jerry to rewind it. Tone was a little off also, had a lot of highs.
E9th on this guitar is awesome sounding. Played it couple hours today and didn’t want to get up from it. C6th will also be awesome I’ll bet with the new pickup.

Amazing! Henry, just curious...every Emmons I've seen have mounting screws between the pickups and mounting plate..what was the reason you mounted them directly on the plate?
