What is the proper or most common height for a steel guitar seat. I bought one from a forum member, but didn't know that the legs had been shortened to 17-1/2" which is too low for me. The seat is a Steeler's Choice seat in nice condition so I plan to restore the legs to fit me better.
Thanks, Dick |

FWIW, my SteelersChoice is 20, my SteelSeatLite is 21". I'm liking the 21" and put crutch tips with 4 3/4" washers inside to Jack up the SteelersChoice! |

Spend another 60 bucks on an adjustable-height keyboard player’s bench, find your most ergonomic height, then alter your Steelers Choice accordingly. |

Learn to use what you have.
Sometimes I play in tennis shoes, sometimes cowboy boots with heels and sometimes in street shoes.
I don't feel a need to raise or lower the height of my seat.
The only time I could see seat height a problem would be if you had several vertical knee levers on your guitar.
Another thing that comes into play is cheap soft foam.
I started steelseat .com and use a foam that seems hard to the touch for many but after a set the foam hasn't compressed to the point you're sitting on the board under it or an inch lower like you are with many other manufacturers seats.
That's not an opinion, it's a fact. Do some comparing. _________________ First owner of Steelseat.com

Another PSG player recommended this to me and I'm glad I sprang for it. If you can do without the storage aspect it's worth it... affordable, comfortable, and adjustable.

FWIW Richard, www.steelerschoice.com lists 21" as standard height. www.steelseat.com lists 20" as standard height [see features button]. They both offer custom builds to a particular height.
I would contact Dann Rollans at steeler's choice website and ask for his recommendation. No one knows more about the product than the guys who built it. |

Tim, I like your solution. What are those things you used...they look like tubing couplers.

I received an email from Dan this morning. He would require that I send the seat in to have new legs installed. Apparently each seat is individually made, so I can't buy a set of legs and install them here at home. The shipping would be pretty expensive, though. |

Well, I solved my problem with a too-low seat. I lengthened the legs. I had an aluminum old lawn chair that was made of 1" o.d. tubing, same as the seat legs. The joint is reinforced by a piece of tubing from, of all things, a steel broom handle. I cut the aluminum tubing the height needed to raise the seat. Then I inserted the reinforcing tubing into the legs and left 2" extend from the legs for the lift pieces, then riveted everything together. Not as ugly as it sounds. It is very sturdy and the 2-1/2" lift gives me a 20" high seat which is perfect for me. Glad I didn't throw all that junk away!!! |
