Sad news indeed.
Thanks for posting, Paul.
I always enjoyed his playing, and he was a perfect fit in the band, during an iconic period for British blues.
It felt like he was a musical disciple of band mate and Fleetwood Mac founder, Peter Green.
I wish I'd had a chance to see them back then.
Rest in peace, Danny Kirwan. |

Bummer... Danny Kirwan, Jeremy Spencer and Peter Green, quite the group of guitarists for one band at one time. |

Very sad. Danny was a great player and songwriter, and a big part of, by far, my absolute favorite incarnation of Fleetwood Mac. I saw them several times when they were playing for days at a crack circa 1969-70 at the Boston Tea Party after it moved to Lansdowne St. in back of the Green Monster at Fenway. They were great, and plenty of that residence in Feb '70 is available - e.g., https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbxGqk40N4w, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0HOuHknsVM, and several others.
RIP Danny. |

Sad to read that Danny has died.
Here are a few of my favorite Danny Kirwan written and performed songs from his days with Fleetwood Mac:
"Like it This Way" (IMO, the quintessential version from the 'Blues Jam in Chicago' album). Danny wrote, sings and plays the lead guitar - Peter Green plays the counterpoint lead guitar:

"Coming Your Way", released on 'Then Play On'. Here is an unreleased track with Kirwan on lead vocals and lead guitar - Peter Green on harmony and counterpoint lead guitar:

and from the 'Kiln House' album, "Tell Me All the Things You Do", also written and sung, with lead guitar by Danny:

Keep on picking'!

I really like the vibrato he was able to achieve. Really a rather tough road for the guy. Will always be one of my favorites especially during his years with Peter, man what a team. RIP/Thanks for the years of enjoyment. _________________ Lookin' on the sunny side.... |

Godspeed Danny. You were part of a classic incarnation of Fleetwood Mac
Dust
Fleetwood Mac
When the white flame in us is gone
And we that lost the world's delight
Stiffen in darkness.
Left alone
To crumble in our separate light
When your swift hair is quiet in death
And through the lips corruption
Thrust to still the labor of my breath
When we are dust, when we are dust
When we are dust, when we are dust
When your swift hair is quiet in death
And through the lips corruption
Thrust to still the labor of my breath
When we are dust, when we are dust
When we are dust, when we are dust
When the white flame in us is gone
And we that lost the world's delight
Stiffen in darkness
Left alone
To crumble in our separate light
When your swift hair is quiet in death
And through the lips corruption
Thrust to still the labor of my breath
When we are dust, when we are dust
When we are dust, when we are dust
composed by Danny Kirwan with lyrics taken from a Rupert Brooke poem.

Yes the vibrato was his and Peter Green's great achievement. Contemporaries like Clapton or Alvin Lee didn't do it. _________________ Fender Kingman, Sierra Crown D-10, Evans Amplifier, Soup Cube. |
