Not gonna replace a lap steel but sure looks fun to play with for $399.

They seemed to have exploited every direction you can turn it. The fretless feature is cool. Apparently you can play it right out of the box.

Some of the Amazon reviews say it's very cool but that you should expect to put in some time to understand it as a musical instrument. Right out of the box, they say, it's more of a Midi interface and remote control and that it can seem a little counterintuitive to guitar players.

This is fascinating - reminds me of the Theramin:

Here's a more fully realized musical concept ...

The cello player certainly isn't playing right out of the box....

That's an interesting item! But I can see the performer in the demo videos running up fast and hard against the limits of expressiveness right away (a common problem to most midi instruments).

A fun toy, definitely. A useful tool in the studio, almost certainly. A deeply expressive musical instrument with the capability to convey the full range of emotion that good musicians can deliver?

Well I won't say never (the EWI is a great example of one that does) but I'd have to see it with my own lyin' eyes first...

If you listen to the last two notes of the violin/fiddle piece, you can hear the digital "cheese", as I call it.
Probably the best response to the human touch of any MIDI instrument I've heard.
