My wife and I were watching an old John Wayne movie, Donovan's Reef, last night and I recalled an
old tune I recorded several years ago entitled Beyond the Reef.

Donovan's Reef has a lot of great Hawaiian steel guitar music in it and I would certainly recommend it.

Here is my version of Beyond the Reef. The steel was tuned to A6 for the melody, and A for the chords.

Beyond the Reef

Please post your version of Beyond the Reef.

I love this tune...one of my first favorites, initially from Alfred Apaka, and my latest favorite instrumental version is Barney and Billy from "Steel Guitar Magic": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqk4U0VT_zM

One of my favorite albums now...made me a B.H.Len fan for life! I'm a less-than-a-year amateur but I'll try to record my humble attempt as its such a lovely song to play...

OK, here's my a version I threw together today (crediting Alan A for the nice backing track). For some reason whenever I try to record something I always get tense and stiff so forgive the clumsy phrasing (maybe I'm always that way but I only notice it when I record Smile )

Thanks, Tom, for the information on who is playing steel in the Donovan's
Reef movie. Lots of good music in the movie.

Nic, thanks for posting your version of Beyond the Reef. Very good.
