Hello, does anyone know how to lower strings 5 and 6 (B and G#) a whole tone, without getting too much slop in the A and B pedals? Albert Johnson had it figured out, but sadly he's passed on. Any help greatly appreciated. |

I lower 5 & 6 on both my push pulls and didn’t do anything special and don’t notice the slack. I lower 6 on RKL and 5 on a vertical. I also have the 6th string that pulls back up a half tone with A pedal which really works great.. _________________ Henry Matthews

Albert Johnson made a bellcrank with holes for the pedal rod rather than the indent in the stock P/P. You could use it without the spring that holds the pedal up in place, without the pedal rod dislodging. The A and B pedals still rose when a lower was used on those strings, but the slack was eliminated for using those pedals. He also made raise and lowering rod guides that eliminated the need for many extra bellcranks as guides, as in this Fatback. Albert's pedal rod bellcranks on pedals 1-3, and guides.

Eddie, I might add that I do not use the pedal return springs on E9th pedals. I just adjust them to where that are fairly tight and very little slack against the little indention on pedal where pedal bar goes. I’ve never had a pedal rod to jump off with years of playing. Makes pedals so mucheasier and positive. To me, the springs are way to stiff for the job they do which makes the pedals harder. Both my push pulls playb, eally easy and if you played one, you would think it a Legrand the pedals and levers are so easy. _________________ Henry Matthews
