They sound pretty good but will never be a substitute if you're a dobro player. I bought one here on the forum in December and decided quickly that it wasn't for me, but I play dobro. If you want to simulate the dobro sound and play dobro licks on pedal steel,it sounds good. As a shameless plug, mine is available in like new condition with the 18v wall wart for 95.00 shipped ! Whoa!

I like mine; it performs as advertised, and sounds somewhat like a Dobro. Although it likely was intended for the pedal steel market, I have achieved the best results on a 6-string lap steel with at least a 24" scale, strung up to high-bass G (standard Dobro tuning), and playing it like a Dobro, using a Stevens-style bar instead of a bullet bar.

Sounds passable in a amplified band.
I kick it on about once in a night and everyone looks. Oooh Dobro sound.
Best in small doses as opposed to leaving it on. Like any effect.
At louder volumes it is difficult to get a real nice dobro sound with an acoustic DoBro.

I use it as a direct replacement for the Fishman Aura (which cost twice+ as much), for gigging with a Gretsch Bobtail Square neck Dobro plugged into an amp, with a full band.
