| I hear some Jim Murphy riffs that were on the Family and Friends Paycheck album but then I hear some early pick blocking style too. There's a variation of the 3 string, two finger riff that Myrick/Rugg put out as well. No idea who this is but hope somebody who know's chimes in and we can locate the whole album if there is one. |

The song--at least if the original version--is from 1975 and never on LP. Issued on a Dot 45.
Supposedly only 1 song recorded on that day, so no other song would be much of a clue.
Pillow's previous session, using the same producer, supposedly has Lloyd Green on steel.
A couple of years later, Ray used both Jeff Newman and Hal Rugg--but that was for another label and producer.
So, ?????????
Here's a screen grab of a Pillow performance from 1975 or very close to that year.
Who dat? Recognize the hands, guitar, wedding band?

That was me for sure and hearing me back then makes me feel real old..Ray was one of the first label artists to take a chance on me...I was just a 21 year old kid as green as you can get to the world of recording....Lloyd was busy on another session and Larry Rogers called Pete Drake who in turn recommended me....It was one of those last minute gigs and until now I never heard the session.

Paul I would have guessed you or Mike Smith as you two may have been the only two to play that style and that fast back then. The early days of speed picking.

Anybody notice that it was written by Johnny Paycheck (Donny Young)? I can't find a Paycheck version, which is kind of strange.

| If what I'm seeing on the web is correct, I believe the song was written by Otha Young, who was a member of Silver Spur with Juice Newton, not Donny Young. |
