Anyone have experience running volume pedal in the effects loop?
Steel Guitar ==> Katana 100 INPUT
......Effect SEND ===>
.........Hilton Volume Pedal
..............===> Effects RETURN
Aside from the obvious hassle of added cables, what are the pros and cons of doing this? |

If you're using a powered pedal, like a Hilton, I can't think of any advantage. And, like you said, the con is more cables to go bad...and an added trip hazard. |

Actually that allows for the pre-amp to see a full non-attenuated signal and, in general, that is a good thing. |

I do exactly that with my old Boss GX-700 and my Stereo Steel. It's the only processor I've found that treats the effects loop as a movable effect in the chain, so I can put some effects before the volume pedal and some after. |

I'm giving it a try. Was concerned that backing off the VP would truncate delay and reverb dwell. But those seem to come AFTER the effects loop on the Katana 100.
I will neeed the amp turned on to have a signal from the volume pedal's Tuner Out. No biggie.
Donny, I'm with you... it's bad form for the steel player to trip on the bandstand. Cables on the floor are secured with gaffer's tape. |

Well, I tried it for a couple of days. It makes a quiet amp even quieter. But it doesn't feel right, whatever that means. The touch response (if there is such a thing) feels "off." Volume pedal behaves differently, in a way I can't describe. Maybe I could get used to it. If I had a multi-taper volume pedal it would be worth further experimentation. But it didn't "speak to me," so to speak.
Going back to my comfort zone. |
