Hey,

If I can find a room, I know I can get a good band........is there any interest in Philly-area Steel meetup and jam? At this point, there's a ton of excellent players around, but as far as I know, no one's ever done this.

Let me know, and we can gauge interest. Maybe a weekend afternoon, before summer?

The planned Brooklyn shindig set up for June 1-3 - https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=329771 - may be sucking the oxygen out of the air for the time period you're talking about - e.g., a weekend before summer starts.

We did a small show March 10 north of Harrisburg. There wasn't any response on that forum thread I started almost 2 months in advance. But Steve Porter came in from Clarion, Jim Schatz came over from St. Marys, Chuck Campbell came up from VA, and Russ Hicks came up from WV, as well as me, Jim Wilson, and Carl Houtz, who are pretty local. I sure had fun, it was the first time I've been able to go to a steel guitar show or jam, recently retired. And not everybody can go to Texas.

Depending on timing, I may be able to come.

Cool.

Let's start by making a list of area players, and when we have something somewhat complete, I'll get in contact and throw out some dates.

Off the top of my head:

Jimbeux

Jack Stanton

Dave Mudgett

Gary Kelly

Bo Borland

Dave Van Allen

Mike Brenner

Lucky Pham

Isaac Stanford

Jeff Metz Jr.

Steve Zinno

David Thornburgh

Ryan Zimmerman

Robert Jackson

Jimmy Heffernan

Add anyone you can think of....on or off the forum!

Thanks!

Up my way in the general central PA region:

Jim Wilson
Jim Schatz
Dan Yeaney
Carl Houtz
Sam Confer
Steve Porter
Kim Metzger
Larry Phleger

and undoubtedly I'm forgetting some, and don't know others. Not to mention many players well within driving distance in Delaware, MD, VA, and WVa and further west in PA.

I only recently found out that Gene Fye, who played with Hank Williams for a while in the late 40s, passed about a year ago.

And let's not forget Tom Vollmer and the players who frequent his jam in Hamburg - e.g., see this thread:

https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=320232

And the southern tier of NY too - Bob Carlucci and others. Eastern PA is pretty close to a lot of players.

Now that I'm retired, I should be able to get outta' Dodge more often.
