Well said! THE essential non-pedal steel question for each player. Stefan went to a 12-string; Rick Aiello moved to a 4-string! What must you have for your music and what are you comfortable without? Otherwise, play a piano. Smile

Maxime.....considering your background and that you like blues, sacred steel, etc......I'd venture a try at E9, low-to-high...E-G#-B-D-F#-G#-B-E.

This gives you Elmore James to Buddy Emmons. Tuning courtesy of Mike Neer, 2009.

Stephen and Stefan thanks for the advice again.

At this point I'm working on my A6 vocabulary learning slants and chords on various songs. I'm also on Darick Campbell dvd that teaches some sacred steel idiom. Well that's an E tuning he uses but as others said here single notes work fine in whatever tuning.
After sittng in A6 for a while I will try those E tuning as I might one day may be get a pedal steel if given the opportunity, that's in my ideas at least ...

Hi everyone, hope you're allright.

Just wanted to give some feedback on my learning, so far I'm still on the A6 tuning given to me as a direction in the first replies.

Well that was till I lowered that high C# to a C trying to mimic Kaytons Robert KAyton's rag finger pull. Well woah that is so convenient to a 6 string guitar player in terms of reference to have that 7/9 sound on the 4 high string. For blues/swing playing that is a killer !! I love it ! Smile

I am having a small gig in june with backing tracks I made (tear drop, amazing grace, steel guit. rag ...)!! The first for me on lap steel that's gonna be fun !!
bye!
