I am joining a band that tunes down to E flat. I am thinking about tuning one of my steel guitars down a half step for rehearsals and gigs, so I can learn the songs with the record and not have to transpose when I play with the band. Not that I can't transpose, but it would make more sense when I see a guitar player fingering a G chord to be in G on my guitar. I'm going to transpose my keyboard for that reason. Country piano doesn't sound right in A flat, E flat G flat, etc. Anyway, back to my question, anyone have a suggestion for a string brand that might best handle a half step lower tuning without buying individual strings? I play old Sho-Bud guitars. Thanks.

A half-step won't make much difference in tension/tone/sustain at all. Don't worry about it.

Many, many. years ago. I played in a group that had horns and liked to play in F. Just raised my E13 tuning up a half a step. Worked fine, no string change needed.
It was a non pedal steel.

DAddarrio NYXL.
I’m not sure if they have more string tension, but they feel like they do to me.
You may consider the Paul Franklin designed set with some higher gauges as well.
