Interesting. I wonder how steel would work with this. With a 12AX7 preamp stage I could ditch my SG Black Box.

100 watts into 4 ohms (as stated in the video) would probably be plenty for what I do.

A single 12AX7 may or may not provide much in the way of "tube tone" depending on how it's used.

But it can't give you the sound of a tube output stage, which is the most fundamental component of "tube amp sound". I've heard dozens of hybrid amps and none have had anything I'd consider close to tube amp sound - at least for live use. The warmth just hasn't been there, and the response has been quite different.

If this one has overcome those issues , though, that'd be a *good* thing - especially with its form factor and price point.

The Amp sounds pretty much the same as my other Half and Half amplifiers - so in other words, really good with pedal steel! The controls are geared more towards the guitar community however I would never make something like this where it was not suitable for pedal steel and other instruments (acoustic or otherwise)

You can use it as a Tube DI/Preamp in front of other amps (like the black box), or on its own running direct. The cab simulation is switchable on both the headphone and XLR outputs and there's plenty of reverb in there!

I hope some steel players get to try this amplifier - it really sounds quite nice with my Williams. I will be using mine a lot because its nice and small for those "throw and go" gigs, and its handy for practicing at home Smile

I will do a video with pedal steel at some point soon. We are currently in the final stages of production. That said, you can watch any other videos of my Half and Half steel amp and expect it to sound pretty much the same (depending on speaker)

yes you can use every output at once:

speaker
headphones
XLR line output
1/4" guitar level output

and they are all isolated from each other

this little box is a steel guitar router Very Happy

Thanks Tim.....individual volumes would have been great, but would have defeated the KISS mentality behind this amp.....Jim

This and my Williams and I am ready to gig.

As far as availability goes - we are still taking pre-orders through my dealer network. I originally said "shipping in Spring" and we are still on track to make that happen.

Tim,
I guess you're covered if you break a string, huh?
