Very nice Richard. Warts and all. Didn't hear any warts.

Would you share the Band in Box file?

Thanks everyone, I’ll be doing Giant Steps shortly so look out for that! Yes I’ll put the track on a Dropbox link and post it here. It’s a BIAB thing that Eddie Mc Farlane did for me so thanks Eddie.

Sounds great Richard! I've been playing that on six string for a long time, I've never tried it on steel. Stanley Turrentine also played on Jimmy Smith's classic album "Back at the Chicken Shack". His playing is a lot different on it then on his later recordings. He's a very soulful musician and I dig everything I hear him on.

For me Stanley Turrentine always had this big fat tone and his playing had a great groove to it. He makes it sound so simple but if you try to transcribe a solo you’ll soon find that his time is pretty complex. If you have one of his albums in the car on a long drive you’ll be in a good mood when you get to where you’re going. I just love his playing. One of my heros along with Lee Morgan.

“On a clear day” wow . He’s swinging hard on that. Yes the open strings with the hammer ons is tricky enough. I’ve been working on Sugar for about 4 months on and off. The head is always the hardest thing on a lot of these tunes. If you don’t nail it, the rest of the tune just falls apart. ST always played a great head.

Richard, if you are referencing open strings to OACD, I don't recall any as I had pretty much transcribed most of his first full ad-lib....a few years back.... Another fellow to extract some neat ideas is from Sir Charles Thompson. Although, many of his Ytube vids were removed. One tune titled Hey Joe or Oh Joe, I forget, had some really neat stuff. Not blazing fast in your face, but enough and easy, assimilating to grow on. Man, those dudes from way back set the standard for me, at least for lots of listening application and an occasional extraction...ha

No Gary I was referring to the hammer ons in Sugar. I haven’t looked at “On a clear day” yet but I think I will after listening to that version. Yes those guys back then had great musicianship. They were busy all the time playing that stuff. That’s why they were so good . Their time is fantastic, always the right notes in the right place.
