Topic: Two Different Songs - Same Title |

Perhaps some member(s) can shed light on something that always puzzled me.
The song "Senza Perdono"("Without Forgiveness") was recorded in 1919 on Victor records by Neapolitan immigrant Nina de Charny:

Santo & Johnny then recorded an instrumental version of this tune in the 1970's:

Then Italian pop stars Alessio and Stefania Lay recorded a completely different tune also called "Senza Perdono" in 2008:

Does anyone know what gives here? Was this illegal or a rip off of the original song's title by Alessio and Stefania and whoever wrote the 2008 tune? |

If I understand you correctly, there is no legal issue.
You can't copyright a title.
There are hundreds of examples of 2 unrelated songs with the same title.
Thousands in fact:

I can write a song called "Night Life" today and there's nothing Willie Nelson or anybody else can do about it.
It's another story if two songs have a lot in common, even though they may have different titles. That can get you into trouble. |

Thanks for the info. Still it's strange that Alessio would use a title that was probably already well-known in Italy and was even recorded in the '70's by Santo & Johnny who were quite popular there.
It's like the Rolling Stones recording a modern rock tune titled "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Clause."
Your response does clear the mystery up...I didn't know that titles are copyright protected. |

I've been playing Burt Bacharach's 'A House Is Not A Home' on C6 lately. trying to figure out a way to connect it with the Roger Miller song of the same name.

| Thematically the songs are similar, but Bacharach's song was released three years prior to Millers which was actually titled, "When your house is not a home." Two iconic songwriters for sure, but IMO these two songs are like the proverbial "apples and oranges." Good luck. |

Here's a challenge for you, Scott, after you figure that one out. Mash up the Jazz standard "Body and Soul" with the bluegrass standard by the same name.
