1928- National Style 1 Square Neck HOLLOWNECK w/ Original Hard-shell case! $2,975 +ship
This very early National Style 1 was produced while John Dopyera was still at the helm at National, prior to leaving the company to start Dobro. Made of German Silver, this beautiful instrument sings out with a warm, direct tone and is in excellent condition for an instrument that is 90 years old! The cones housed in the wells of this guitar are replacement cones made by Paul Beard, who also did a complete setup on the instrument. However, the original tri-cones are part of this package and are easily interchanged back into the instrument. The serial number on this Style 1 is one of the earliest I have seen on an original National at #597. The Mahogany head-stock is in excellent condition on this one, as these are usually quite beat up on these instruments. There is a ding in the lower bass bout on the body and some minor button/buckle wear. There is a small Mahogany dowel on the back of the head-stock, yet it has been done in a professional manner and is hardly visible. The hand-strap is showing the usual wear, and there is a faint weld tarnish mark on the back of the neck (please see pictures.) All in all it is amazing this instrument survived in such excellent condition for its age.
12th Fret did a great comparison of a bunch of National Square Neck, metal and wood.
The Hollow neck (like this one has) made a big difference! Almost all what you see for sale nowadays - the more recent ones - have a solid wooden neck...

This guitar comes with the original hard-shell-case, which is missing some of the latches and needs to be tied to be held closed. Still, the original case is part of this package and adds to the uniqueness of this instrument.

This is a great Tricone sounding Tricone guitar.....I owned this guitar for about 14 years having bought it from the original owner's estate...so it hasn't been passed "around the horn" as many aged worn Tricones have been......had I not had the opportunity to purchase a Style 4 Tricone (and I didn't need two).....this guitar would not be here...... |

...and if I wasn't having a custom tricone built, it also wouldn't be here, because I'd have kept it for sure! _________________ www.facebook.com/swingaliband & a few more....
