I was looking at a for sale listing here on the forum and the guitar was listed as having flags on the knee levers. I have short legs and reaching my knee levers is difficult. I can sit closer, but that cramps up my bar hand / arm. I figure I can make some flags if they would be useful. Does anyone use flags, and are they satisfactory, or are there drawbacks I'm not seeing from here?

I have used flags for 30 years....If you plan on putting a lot of time in the chair the main benefit of dispersing the pressure of narrow levers with flags: comfort.
The downside: they will add a few ounces of weight. |

I typically don't use them right now, but have often in the past on certain steel guitars, and they can be a huge benefit when the levers don't "fit you" correctly for whatever reason..
I have had guitars where the knee levers needed to be left where they were for space/clearance reasons, and could not be easily moved. I needed extra downward reach, or in some cases, less clearance between my knee/leg and the lever, and flags were a great help.. Personally I like them a lot on some guitars, and need them, but on others, I have pulled them right off.. It all depends on how the guitar "fits" you... bob _________________ I'm over the hill and hittin'rocks on the way down!

Both the Emmons D-10 I had and my current D-10 Franklin have "flags" on the RKR. I don't have a need for flags on any other knee levers.
However, on my Wife's GFI Expo S-10 (bought used) it came with two uninstalled flags. Never put them on and doesn't seem to need them, even on the RKR. _________________ GFI Ultra Keyless S-10 with pad (Black of course) TB202 amp, Hilton VP, Steelers Choice sidekick seat, SIT Strings

I always like to have a flag on LKL. Well, unless it's a Sho-Bud.
I tell you, it's as if that angled shaft was patented or something... |

Duane - The LKL lever on my BMI has a bit of an angle, similar to a Sho~Bud. Very comfortable. _________________ Lee, from South Texas - Down On The Rio Grande

I bought a Marrs rebuild years ago and took it upon myself to angle it. |

Yeah, what's up with that design? Such a great idea, but so few builders followed Sho-Bud's lead and mount that left knee lever at an angle. I don't get it. |

My BMI has the LKL angled like a ShoBud but, personally, I prefer to have the knees straight and at the rear of the cabinet - I think a Fessy SD-10 3x5 had the most comfortable knees that I remember owning - also a Desert Rose had them set right for me also. If I play something for awhile, I can usually get used to it, though. _________________ 2013 Brook Torridge, 2014 Martin 000-18, two homebrew Teles, Evans RE200 amp, Quilter 101R head, understanding wife of 45 years. If the shaft's at an angle then the rod pulls at a slight angle which would be against a lot of builders' engineering instincts. Don't see much harm myself. _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!
