Does anybody know if the stock Sperzel tuning machines on my early D-10 Zum can be replaced with Grover 210C tuners? I was hoping for a direct fit? |

Hi Karl. I asked this same question here a few years ago. According to Carter expert John Fabian, probably the keyhead would have to be modified.
I subsequently sold the guitar and did not pursue the issue further. Perhaps someone else has.

NO, the Grover 210s have a smaller shaft diameter than the Sperzels . The key head shaft HOLE is too big. Been here done this...
You can check the dimensions of each on the specific websites. _________________ Emmons L-II , Fender Telecasters, B-Benders

Sperzel tuners are great! Why do you want to change them? _________________ Dr. Z Surgical Steel amp, amazing!

Thanks Tony and Jerry! John, the tuners are very stiff. I had the same tuners on an MSA Classic SS that I bought new, and I didn't like them then for the same reason. However, it looks like I'm going to have to live with them! Thanks again guys! |
