Topic: Seeking advice - Pole piece wiggles out when playing |

Hey!
Ive got 2 old Supros that have the string through pickups, and when im playing at the gig (loud and overdriven stage volume) the pole pieces wiggle out and hit the string.
Any advice on how to tighten up those pole pieces so they dont "walk" on me during the gig?

I've seen candle wax used. Dripped on the bottom of the pickup plate and/or applied to the threaded pole piece.

Loc-tite sounds like a good way ... Super glue would work, but you would have to be quick !  |

Whatever you use just be aware that those pole pieces are very brittle and the slot heads are easily chipped.

| I'd be trying the wax directly on top of the pole piece. Easily undone if it doesn't work or if you need to adjust the pole piece later. |

Ok so I ended up using the Teflon tape, and so far, im happy with how it all went. I was surprised at how loose all my pole pieces were, and they didnt loosen more in general.
No notice in sound, I haven gotten out on the gig yet, but am curios how this "potting" the pole pieces will effect the sound. Ill report back, but so far so good.

Those are usually 6-32 thread. I've used cutoff and filed pieces of machine screws (the ones used to hold in light switches) in a pinch.
Also, elmer's glue is an easy removable way to tie them down. Plumber's tape is a good idea, though.

Sounds like theeses geeses got the sticky bits covered, but: Crucially(!), old mojo can periodically dry out and even just turn to powder and blow away.  So a regularly-scheduled re-mojo-tizationizing procedure with lively, x-tra slurpy young mojo is highly recommended. Although there is some kinda-streaky foreign mojo going the rounds. Itchy! Long ago I learned that from... umm, you know, the a, ah... hmmm...

P.S. With those... incredible, gorgeous... THINGS you make, why in the name of jeeber's fleas are you playing old fall-apart budget student steels? It really IS mojo? Shoot, I'll trade you, like, THREE BOXES of mojo-laden woke-up-dis-moanin' falled-apart little bits just for ONE of your (apparently) No-Good Mojo-LESS squeaky shiny modern things... snif?) |
